Ranma Muyo Part 1a by Gregg Sharp ===== a bet concept by Gregg, Metroanime@aol.com http://members.aol.com/greggsharp/index.html char owned by Pioneer, R.Takahashi, etc. WARNING:Xover with some degree of fusion. On the other hand, this is neither lemon nor dark. -------------------------------------- "It's a tiny change," snickered Priapus. Toltiir sighed, knowing he was going to have another set of protests lodged from some purist group. It didn't help that Priapus was such an utter prick... "Just one percent of one percent of one degree! It's not that much of a change." "I understand that," Toltiir sighed. "But when you're dealing with a chunk of nickel-iron some 145 tons in mass, travelling at speeds of roughly mach eight, the humor isn't quite as easy to find in the situation." "You can't argue that it doesn't impact their situation, though." Toltiir appreciated puns as much as the next psuedo-feline god of mischief, and had to admit that altering the timeline so that Shampoo and Ranma met each other for the first time during the cataclysm caused by one chunk of that meteor making a new volcano in the mountains, had a certain appeal. Yes, a romance as two people from divergent cultures, lost and alone, try to survive and get out of the blast zone...but no. "It just lacks a certain elegance, look at what Apollo's doing over...there..." If Toltiir's current form had hands, he would have covered his face. "Those Norse and Greek deities never could be trusted to abide by a set of rules, could they?" ------------------------------------ Ranma Muyo! chapter 1a: No Need For Jusenkyo ------------------------------------ Ranma focussed and practiced the sword kata he'd learned while visiting his cousin (on his mother's side) Tenchi up at the Masaki Shrine. Yosho was a good sensei, Ranma had to admit. His style of teaching was completely different from Genma's, though both were tough disciplinarians. A wager between Yosho and Genma had become a duel. Yosho's Masaki School Vs Genma's Anything Goes. It had lasted a suprisingly long time, and Ranma had been quite impressed with how many special manuevers his old man had pulled out. That bit with the vacuum blades had been especially cool. Yosho had, however, won. Result: Genma got a job. Ranma helped out at the shrine and learned some of the codes of honor and behavior, as well as the sword techniques, of his mother's lineage. When Yosho was satisfied, Genma and Ranma continued on. Ranma whirled about, catching his father who had been trying to sneak up on him again. The edge of Ranma's sword a few inches from the larger man's throat. "Hey, oyaji, when you gonna teach me some of those tricks you used against Ojii-san?" "I regret using those, boy. I had never thought to use them again." Genma moved the wooden tip of Ranma's practice sword away from his throat. "Now it is time to put away the sword, we have SERIOUS training to begin." ----------------------------------------------------- Ranma was shocked and surprised to see the panda come flying out of the pool, and his guard dropped. As he flew towards one of the pools, he remembered what Ojii-san Yosho had said, and calmed himself. Neither excessive rage nor panic served a purpose in the life of a true warrior. The waters of the pool claimed him. Ranma came up spluttering and listened to the Guide going on about how a girl had drowned in the pool, and now anyone who fell into the pool would now be transformed into a young girl. Pulling open his gi, Ranma looked down at his breasts, winced and made one of those important life decisions. His father and his training methods/philosophies had done this. From now on, he would follow the path of his mother's line, for he could not see his grandfather pulling this kind of stunt. "Pardon me," Ranma said, getting out and beginning to wring out the top of his, no, her gi. The look the girl shot her father left no doubt that she wished that it was his neck that being twisted. "Guide, is there a cure for this 'terrible tragic story' or am I stuck like this?" "Oh, sirs, I know no cure for Jusenkyo curse. Hot water turn you back, but cold water now turn you into young girl. Many peoples try find cure for Jusenkyo. Many peoples fail." Catching sight of her father again, Ranma began breathing exercises to calm herself. "Anger rarely serves its wielder," was one of Yosho's sayings. Ranma ignored the panda and asked the Jusenkyo Guide for some hot water. ------------------------------------------------------- "Yeah, that girl's got some serious strength," Ranma said with a smile, his attention completely on the two warriors duking it out on the challenge log. The Guide had said (upon Ranma's questioning) that as soon as the battle was over, there would be a feast, and it didn't look like it would take much longer. The purple-haired girl knocked her opponent out of the ring, then stared at Ranma. Ranma blinked, realizing after a moment that she wasn't staring at HIM, but at... With a sinking feeling, Ranma turned and saw his father eating the feast that had been laid out near the benches. "Oh, no, oyaji?!" The village Champion crossed over to stand in front of Ranma, speaking in rapidfire Mandarin. The Guide translated. "Hey, you, strange boy. How can you let your panda eat my prize? I just win martial arts tournament, big honor, you stupid male person." "So these amazons aren't too fond of the male gender, huh?" Ranma had noticed that there were no men nearby. "If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have avoided the mist from that waterfall. Okay, Guide, please translate that I'm very sorry but I don't have any money to pay her for what 'my panda' has eaten." The Guide spoke a little in Mandarin, then listened to the girl's reply. "She say you wrong her, then she make you slave. Work off debt." "I...don't think so," Ranma felt a headache coming on. So much for reason. "If I challenge her, and beat her, will that satisfy her honor, since then it would be MY prize that the stupid panda ate?" The Guide translated, and Shampoo cracked her knuckles. The expression on her face said it all, that she was looking forward to teaching this upstart male a lesson in humility. In short order, Shampoo stood on one end of the log, twin bonbori in her hands. Ranma held his bokken in a ready position. Shampoo shot across the space between them, her maces ready to club this impudent male into submission. Ranma pulled his bokken back in a feint, then lashed out with a kick that went through Shampoo's defenses. She dropped off the log with a startled yelp. Ranma tried to salvage the situation. "Tell her I'm sorry again. I... didn't want to hit such an attractive and capable warrior, and no doubt she was tired from all her previous battles." It was another thing that Yosho had taught, that sometimes you must fight but to try not to make more enemies out of your opponents than you absolutely had to. Shampoo was getting up from her landing, and her eyes widened as the Guide translated. The look she turned on Ranma was speculative. Then she crossed over to him, and made an entirely different sort of attack. Ranma stood stunned as the girl wrapped her arms around him and her lips pressed up against his own. Shampoo turned away from him briefly, looking for her Great Grandmother to see what she thought about all this. "GROWF!" The panda listened to the Guide's translation and didn't like this development at all. He grabbed the still stunned Ranma and ran as if a demon were chasing him. After all, if Ranma married that amazon, then what would happen to the dream of uniting the two Anything Goes schools? ---------------------------------------------- Shampoo sat down with the Guide and listened to his story. At first, he'd thought she was giving the Kiss Of Death, but had realized that this was the Kiss Of Marriage instead and had told the father. The panda had panicked at that point, slung the boy over one shoulder, and run for the pass. All the time he'd been telling the boy who had defeated her that she had just given the Kiss Of Death and would be coming to kill the boy who had dared defeat her. Yes, the Guide responded to her questioning, they were odd as a father/son combination. Yes, the boy did seem much more thoughtful and honorable than his father. No, the Guide did NOT think that the boy intended to become Shampoo's husband or that he'd enjoy settling down in the Amazon Village. Shampoo sighed and turned to Cologne, waiting for the Elder to speak. "" The Guide nodded. "" Shampoo nodded to show that she understood. --------------------------------------- "It is a matter of family honor," Genma stated emphatically. "You MUST marry a Tendo." "Honor, huh?" Ranma sighed. If it was a matter of honor, then he was stuck with it. If this turned out to be just another of his father's idiot schemes, then he'd bow out of it as soon as possible. "Fine, oyaji, but let's at least get some hot water before we go visit them. I'll have to tell them about the curses, but if I'm going to meet a potential iinazuke, I'm going to do it as a guy." "But we aren't in cursed form now, are we?" "How many times do we get splashed in the normal course of the day? Come on, oyaji, you know better than that." -------------------------------------------- Ranma looked nervously over at the three girls. Everything had gone fine until he'd gotten the hot and cold water and started explaining about the curse. The angry girl, Akane, had gone from angry to shocked. The interested girl had become shocked and upset, and was now angry. The polite one was angry as well, but was turning that anger on Genma, which Ranma didn't have a problem with. Unfortunately, neither Genma nor Soun were going to give either the girls the option or give Ranma the option of "none of the above." "...so, pick the one you want. She'll be your new fiancee." Soun was finishing. "Mister Tendo, this does not appear to be a good time," Ranma was TRYING to be reasonable. "None of your daughters are happy with this idea, and dooming one of your daughters to a relationship they'll hate merely insures that they'll come to hate and resent you, don't you see that?" Soun Tendo didn't hesitate for a second. "They'll thank me for it when the relationship works out." "Stop stalling, boy, and pick your bride." "Oh, he wants Akane," Kasumi said with a smile. "After all, they're the same age." "HEY!" Akane turned to her betrayer. "Couldn't agree more," Nabiki chimed in. "After all, you hate boys, and Ranma's half girl." "Oh, thank you," Ranma said quietly. He fought down the immediate response, after all, these three had no choice in this clumsy arrangement either. This brought all three of the Tendo daughters to stare at their guest. The pain he'd managed to convey in that brief response managed to reach them. "Mister Tendo, Father, you do what you want. There is no honor in forcing one of these girls to marry someone who disgusts them." Ranma got up and bowed slightly to Kasumi. "Thank you for the tea. It was delicious." "Ranma, where do you think you're going?" Genma glared at his son but didn't bother to get up. "I'm going to the Masaki Shrine, my honored grandfather had many stories of magic and demons and spells. He may know of something that the Jusenkyo Guide did not." Ranma silently added that at least he could get away from this. The hostility level had dropped from the three, though the youngest still looked at him as if he were some freak. It was really pushing his annoyance level up. Ranma didn't wait for an argument, action was more his style anyway. He shot a look back over his shoulder and was gone while his father was still yelling about how his son was failing to be a man. Kasumi colored slightly, feeling shamed even as the two fathers fell to arguing with each other. That had not been a proper way to treat a guest, but the idea of her fiance being a girl half the time was just so unsettling. Nabiki looked down at the table. She had seen Ranma's parting expression and known it quite well, she wore it often enough when there was no one to see it. Loneliness. A desire to belong. She fidgeted slightly, wondering if she'd possibly made a mistake. Akane's reaction was quite different. Relief. The boy was gone and all this engagement nonsense could be safely dispensed with. All boys were perverts anyway. Still, there had been a brief toying with the idea that if she had a fiancee maybe those idiots at school would leave her alone. "I'll go get him," Genma finally announced. "There is no way I'll let him get away with this behavior. It must be my wife's father's influence on him." Akane left to get a bath. Kasumi, her mind on other things, went to fix supper. Nabiki decided to go back and finish her homework, after all, school started again the next day. ------------------------------------------- Ranma lifted the coffee can from the trashbin and rinsed it off carefully. Using her finger, she made a set of holes in the metal near the closed end. With tinder inside the container, it became a small cooking utensil. "Uhm, Saotome-san," said a voice that Ranma hadn't expected. "I..." Ranma glanced up through the deepening gloom. "Kasumi-chan? What are you doing out at this time of night?" "I...wanted to apologize for..." Kasumi felt her cheeks burning. He'd said "Kasumi-'chan'? She hadn't been called that since she was much younger. She realized that even though he was a girl at the moment, she had little difficulty in seeing the young man who'd entered their home. "You needn't. I understand completely." Ranma turned his attention back to tending the fire. "Pretty disgusting to find yourself with a fiance who's a girl as often as not, isn't it?" Kasumi studied the ground, nodding briefly. "How did you find me, anyway?" "Your father came back and told my father. They plan on bringing you back tonight." "Ah. I appreciate the warning," Ranma said. The water was beginning to steam, so Ranma splashed himself quickly. Then he put his shirt out to dry as it kept getting soaked today. Kasumi's eyes bugged slightly as she watched him move around. A few phrases regarding muscle definition came to her mind and her blush deepened as a result. Ranma didn't notice, as he had already begun to figure out routes from the area. "Kasumi-chan, thank you, I really appreciate this." Ranma silently added that it was all for their benefit anyway. Ranma looked over again, to see that Kasumi had abruptly vanished back into the night. He shrugged, he couldn't blame her for not wanting to be around him with such a weird curse. He had just packed everything when the second visitor arrived. Ranma had an odd feeling of deja vu as Nabiki went through much the same reactions as had Kasumi earlier. Including the reaction to his currently shirtless condition. It made him feel as if he had spilled something on himself the way they stared at him. Dismissing what he didn't understand, Ranma found the conversation went around the same pattern as the first, except that Nabiki was there a little longer. By the time Akane showed up, Ranma was already gone. ------------------------------------------- OOC? Well, yes, Ranma is. In this timeline instead of being on Earth for 700 years with only one child resulting (and that was back in the sixties) Yosho HAS had a few offspring besides Achika. Though called Grandfather, the tie is a little looser than that. More like Great-grandfather. Nodoka is the daughter of Shiro Masaki though neither Shiro nor Nodoka have ever tapped their Jurai power (at least not yet). So, Ranma goes to train with "Grandpa" for awhile. Figure a little over four years goes by until Yosho decides that Ranma has the rudiments down and he's done damage control on Genma's example. Ranma and Tenchi consider themselves to be cousins, no matter what silly tag a genealogist wants to use. Yes, i do plan on doing 1b. this is just a few notes to satisfy those who need the points above explained. So we have a Ranma who is MUCH more up on the code of honor, and the "flavor" is a bit less nutsoid, more in keeping with the Tenchi OAV series. Next: planned. Tenchi Muyo OAV series has just ended. Ranma arrives to see SPACESHIPS (the Jurai royal family) departing the area. As Ranma is dealing with that, and the Masaki household is dealing with Cousin Ranma's problems, enter Shampoo. Aeka meets Shampoo, will the princesses conspire to get their men, or will it just be a fight as usual? And what of Kiyone? She wasn't in the OAV series, but can the writer of this keep from introducing the char anyway. Oh, what was in that ramen, anyway? --- From: metroanime@aol.com (MetroAnime) Subject: [Xover][Danfic] The Bet - Ranma Muyo - Part 1b a bet concept by Gregg, Metroanime@aol.com http://members.aol.com/greggsharp/index.html char owned by Pioneer, R.Takahashi, etc. WARNING:Xover is based on anime Ranma & 1st OAV series of Tenchi. On the other hand, this is neither lemon nor dark, at least so far. ---------------------------------------------------------- Ranma Muyo 1b no need for Jusenkyo ---------------------------------------------------------- Genma and Soun were unhappy. Ranma had left, seeking out his grandfather Yosho's advice regarding a cure for his Jusenkyo curse. When discovering that the campsite had been abandoned, the two had called a private brainstorming session to develop a battleplan. As one of the potential fiancees, Nabiki felt every right to eavesdrop. With all things considered, it was her life on the line. The only two choices that Ranma could make here were herself or Kasumi, or so Nabiki assumed. In the first case, the potential pluses and minuses of having an iinazuke. In the second case, the thought of having to endure what the Tendo household would be like without Kasumi's presence. Having to eat out on a regular basis to avoid Akane's cooking was not a good thing. Nabiki didn't have the money to purchase expensive electronic surveillence equipment, so she relied on more primitive methods. In this case, a borrowed jelly jar. "....the Masaki Shrine?" "Yes, Tendo. My wife's family comes from a little area over on Kyushu. They maintain an ancient Shinto shrine there, amid some mountains. That is where he is heading." "Okay, so we go up there and retrieve the boy. No problem." "Uhm. No, I don't think that would be a good idea." Genma paused. "You haven't met Yosho. He's good. Very, very, good." "An old priest? Against two masters of the Anything Goes style? You must be joking, Saotome. Honor demands we retrieve your errant son." "Even though he's a weapon user, don't underestimate the Masaki style of swordsmanship. About eight years ago, I went up against Yosho." "What, he caught you pilfering?" "Yes, but that's not what the boy thinks. If I won, I got to keep the scrolls I'd found hidden under a dresser. If he won, he'd take over Ranma's training until he felt that Ranma had the basics of his mother's school down. Four years later we were able to move on." "Hmph. Should have cheated, Saotome." "I did, Tendo. I used every trick and special technique I could. I lost." Soun Tendo paused before speaking. "If he's that good, then sneaking in is also out. Direct confrontation isn't any good. That leaves getting to Ranma before he gets to the Shrine, or..." "You have an idea?" "Who says WE have to be the ones to retrieve your wayward son?" On the other side of the wall, Nabiki winced and waited for the shoe to drop. "But none of your daughters are interested in the marriage either, how will you get them to go along with it?" "They are my daughters and they will abide my decision. They are not as mule-headed as your son." "It's...worth a try, I guess. Camping trip?" "No, visiting family in a very rustic setting, I think." "They've got a hot spring, I think." There had been something about a hot spring, anyway. Nabiki involuntarily grinned. A hot spring? She then spent a considerable amount of time chastising herself for that very reaction. "It's a plan, then. Soun..." "And Genma's..." They chorused on the last line. "Operation Hot Springs!" -------------------------------------- From train, to bus, to boat. Ranma Saotome expected a panda to suddenly appear and haul her away to another meeting with the Tendos. They knew where she was going, though as well as the fact that somewhere along the line, some water would somehow find its way into triggering the change to his cursed form. There had been that one nasty point where she had seen that Chinese girl from the mountain village. Ranma thought she'd gotten away unseen by the amazon, though. Good thing she didn't know what she looked like in cursed form. Currently in that cursed form, mainly because it had gotten to be too much trouble to switch back every time it happened. Then from boat, to train, to bus, to walking. It seemed a little strange to go on a long hike without her father, but a quick trip down memory lane was sufficient to bring renewed pleasure at being alone. Ranma got to a clear spot in the road and stumbled to a halt. BIG was the first impression. Two ships, hovering in midair without any visible blades, jets, or other means of locomotion. One looked relatively tiny to the one that seemed to dominate the valley. Ranma blinked a couple of times more as her mental processes finally got everything together. She increased his pace towards the Shrine, a grin cutting across her face. Alien invasion! Bug eyed monsters coming to mutilate the planet, enslave the women, rape the farm animals. (or something like that.) Just the sort of thing to take one's mind off one's trouble. -------------------------------------- Shampoo froze and stared at the way those things were hanging in the air, exactly the way large hunks of wood and metal are not supposed to do. The picture of Ranma's cursed form dropped from nerveless fingers as she watched the sky rip itself open above the two ships, and they vanished within it. Shampoo continued to stare at the sky for long minutes after that. She was wishing that Aloe was here now instead of reporting back to her Great Grandmother. She wished her airen would stop walking. She'd settle for a complete stranger that she could grab by the collar, so long as somebody gave her an explanation. And there was her airen, loosening some wooden sword in her backpack and going directly into the area those ships had just been in. She was heartened somewhat by the evident courage of her husband. On the other hand, she would much rather that Ranma would change back to male form and prove his courage by some means that did not involve skies being ripped open and mile long ships hanging in midair. An idea came to Shampoo. Yes, she could just see it now: her airen surrounded by alien invaders, when Shampoo arrives and saves her airen (producing a hot water jug to turn him back into a man), the lights go to soft focus as she holds him in her arms... Shampoo looked around. Her airen had vanished. Cursing in a Tibetan dialect, Shampoo ran in the direction her airen had last been seen going. -------------------------------------------- Okay, this is enough for the general direction to be seen. Mind you, if the feedback indicates i should start this elsewhere in the Tenchi timeline, there's two other good starting points. 1) Beginning of the series. Tenchi has just been to the cave, and hasn't met Ryoko the second time yet. Being faced with Ranma's curse, he tells Ranma (not his grandpa) about the mummy. When Ryoko attacks, Shampoo sees this as the perfect time to rescue airen and gain his gratitude. Who rescues whom, though? 2) End of 1st set of OAVs. Kagato has just been vanquished, and during the "Night Before The Carnival" episode, Ranma shows. Shampoo waits for a chance to corner airen, and in the dark mistakes Tenchi for Ranma. When the lights come on, Aeka and Ryoko aren't too happy about someone else glomping Tenchi. in any case, can we see scenes like: //scene: Shampoo inspecting some odd gadget that Washu has built, hits the wrong button and is put in suspended animation, boxed, and Christmas wrapped in seconds.// Shampoo, amazon princess, is...intrigued by her husband's family. Two ways she could take it, either so intimidated by the scale and technology that she leaves to go back to her rustic village; alternatively, the purple haired wondergirl could find the whole concept fascinating and want to stick around and see alien things, people, and places. //scene: Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane are sitting down. Kasumi is covering her mouth, Nabiki is covering her ears, and Akane is covering her eyes.// The Tendos arrive. Kasumi, Akane, and Nabiki quite openly. Ranma explains to Shampoo that while they turned him down, these three have a prior claim. Aeka chimes in that because Ranma is descended from the Jurai Royal House, he must marry TWO women, so she doesn't see why it's a big deal. One can see Kasumi and Sasami getting along fabulously. Akane vs Ryoko round one. Nabiki falling for Tenchi, as the apparent heir to the wealth of an advanced planetary civilization. Kasumi likes the mature Ranma, or will she be interested in Yosho? //scene: Soun and Genma running down the road, pursued by two "logs."// Soun and Genma attempt to sneak in, but Azaka and Kamedaki keep finding them. //scene: Cologne staring at something. You see her eyes roll up and she passes out, but is smiling.// What's Cologne's reaction going to be when she finds out the rough power level of Ranma and Tenchi? Will she turn her back on such "strong warriors" and decide to drag Shampoo back to the village? Just her reaction to the "lighthawk wings" could be precious. Finding out that there is another space adventure brewing, does she phone home to some of the other husbandless amazons seeing the opportunity for them to meet some REALLY strong males? //scene: Kuno walking up a mountain path, obviously looking for something.// Whither fair Akane Tendo? He's obviously got the bucks to go looking for her, and Nabs would prob get some extra money selling him the address before she finds out aliens and mad scientists are up there. Kuno calls Ryoko a foul demon, Ryoko takes exception to being called foul. What's Kuno's reaction to the first sight of Tsunami? //scene: a startled looking Kiyone points to herself and gives a "who, me?" look.// What of Kiyone? Will she show up, after Mihoshi's little fairy tale, listed as KIA in the Galactic Police's files? Will Seriyo return to challenge Tenchi? //scene: we see the gift wrapped box of Shampoo, camera pans out and we see a similarly wrapped box nearby.// Will Nabiki try to find something she can sell in Washu's lab? Will she succeed? Will she find a way out of the box before Christmas or is Ranma going to get a REAL surprise under the tree? Is this going to be an out-of-season trick or is this the treat? //scene: camera moves to where two piles of clothing can be seen, washed, pressed, and folded. Empty too. A third box can also be seen nearby, this one marked for Tenchi. Camera moves again to show Washu, who has fallen off her chair and is still laughing.// //scene: Ranma getting his @$$ kicked by a shadowy figure with four arms.// And for all those who would complain that Ranma + Jurai connection = too powerful, too mature, too much a "self insert" (one of the many charges levelled against my writing, that sound you hear is the author snickering over this one.) Go ahead and think that, just stop e-mailing me as i'm deleting 'em unread now as there's a few who don't even make valid criticisms but want to vent for some reason... Everyone who knows better: Ranma has a whole slew of other opponents scheduled, with the big baddie being scheduled - Lady Tokimi. Tenchi has a much greater overall power level, though is a less capable HTH fighter. I can also see a scene where there's a problem and the MiB or Galaxy Police "recruit" a few deputies...possibly mixing in a third or fourth series for more crossing over. (Something like the Sherriff's Posse we've got here in Arizona would work.) //scene: Shampoo singing the theme from "Uchuu Senkan Yamato" (or Star Blazers) as the Yagami takes off on yet another adventure, Mihoshi chiming in a moment later, drawing glares from everyone else onboard.// //scene: Tenchi, Ranma, Shampoo, Akane, and Nabiki in school uniforms, trudging off into the sunrise, while Sasami and Kasumi wave from the Masaki-ke. Cut to scene of Soun and Genma back at the Tendo-ke, surrounded by mounds of empty Cup Ramen containers as they hatch their newest plan to wed a Tendo & a Saotome.// //scene: Happosai, face buried in a book titled "Interstellar Navigation Made Easy"// And what of Happosai? When he learns of the vast universe out there with feminine undergarments that have never been seen by human eyes, will he be intimidated by the vast frontier before him? //scene: a question mark, behind which several silhouttes can be seen.// Since the timeline divergence is that Yosho DID have other children in his 700yr stay on Earth, and aliens have been there before (in the Tenchi timeline) what of the other children of Yosho? What of other victims of "great grandma was an alien" syndrome? Ryouga is an obvious choice, making him a human-oni (UY) hybrid has all sorts of possibilities... oh well, i'll wait a couple of days before sending this on to FFML & RAAC, just in case. ja ne, gregg
