Shadows of Skavenblight Mordheim Campaign

Welcome to my Mordheim campaign page. It's full of ideas, notes and a few useful tables I plan on using. If you're interested in playing, have ideas on how to improve this thing or otherwise want to give me feedback about this whole steaming pile, email me at jarreas at mindspring.com.

This page is divided into four parts:

Read on, enjoy and gimmie feedback or forever hold your peace. You're bound to find gaps, contradictions and errors. Ask and I'll make a ruling. If you plan on using the phrase "The rulebook says..." without first being asked what the rulebook says, you'll probably have issues with me and my style of GMing.

What You Have To Do:
If you want to be involved in this thing, you need to do a couple of things. Create a warband, show up more than half the time, yadda, yadda, yadda. You know the drill.
Warband Creation You've got 500 Gold Crowns - have fun. Since you're reading this you've obviously got Internet access as well, so go get a free copy of Army Builder and put together a warband. If Army Builder verifies that it's a legal warband you can run it. If not, you can't. Simple enough for an Ork.

The free version of Army Builder won't let you make a warband of over 500 GC, but that's allright as I've registered my copy (you should too - it's a fabulous program) and I'll be keeping track of the validity of your warband.

I want a copy of your warband at least a week before the first game. Email it, fax it, snailmail it, scribble it in crayon and fold it into a paper airplane - whatever works. Don't worry about trying to keep it a secret - everyone's warband will be posted on the web. Individual stats and skills won't be detailed, but which models you have, their experience and your total equipment will be available for all the world to see.

Read the New Rules I've typed up the sequence of play. Read it and let me know what you think. If you think you've got a better idea, I wanna know about it - you might be right. Also, be prepared for the rules to change after the game's started. We'll find things that don't work, don't make sense or are just downright cheezy - and they'll get changed. As a GM I tend to favor the cinematic over the realistic so if you want to try something that isn't in the rules but would make sense and/or is really dramatic, go for it! You might even get away with it - no guarantees, but you'll at least have a chance to try.
Turn in Reports Yes, just like in school you have to write reports. Every game you play, fill out an After-Action Report and get it to me. I'll take 'em all and update the web page. No report means you don't get credit for the fight. This includes both the all-player campaign games as well as the one-on-one interm games.

Here's the After-Action Report in .PDF format.

Have Fun If you're not having fun or if you think you could be having more fun if something changed, say something. I'm not adverse to constructive criticism and nobody enjoys sullen players. Likewise, if you think I'm being a dick tell me so - I don't like to unintentionally piss people off so let me know if it happens. If it's accidental I'll apologize and try to change whatever I was doing.

What I'm Gonna Do:
I'm gonna keep this web page updated and record everyone's wins, losses and warband ratings. Go look at the sample campaign forms - they'll give you an idea of what to expect.
Give You a Campaign I've set up a series of scenarios that I'll inflict upon you once a week. There is an overall theme to each act and some of the actions you take early on may well affect later scenarios. I hope for a reasonable amount of role-playing in addition to the obligatory carnage, and I'd appreciate it if you would put some thought and detail into your warband. Things like a reason for being in the area, names for the warband members, short personal histories and the like will probably give you something extra to start the game with, maybe a Metamagic card or two. Things like private rivalries, petty feuds and ignoring scenario victory conditions to persue personal goals during the games will be both applauded and rewarded.

In between the campaign scenarios your warbands may meet and fight it out between themselves. These "in-between" games are on your own time and at your convenience, and count towards your campaign rating. Things that die, loot you find and Metamagic cards you use all carry over to the campaign. However, each warband may only fight one battle "in-between" and that battle counts for both of the participating warbands. This should be a little more clear when you look at the After-Action Report and the Warband Ranksings pages.

Treat Everyone Equally I'll do my best to be fair, evenhanded and run an enjoyable campaign. However, you should be warned - things will happen that may appear to break the rules. You will encounter items and abilities that you are not allowed to have, don't understand and can't easily figure out how to deal with. Some scenario victory conditions will favor certain types of warbands, others may make some skills and spells useless. Life is not fair, and a game that simulates life need not be either. If I think it is appropriate to the campaign then I consider it legitimate. Don't expect to enjoy everything that happens, but I'd like you to think I'm being fair.

New Rules & Stuff:
I have a tendency to change any game system I get my grubby little paws on, and Mordheim is no exception. I've changed the rules, clarified a few things and added a few things of my own. Read on, and if you complain I'll listen. You'll have to justify your objections and I'll ask for alternatives, but I will listen and not take offense if you think my stuff smells worse than a load of Dingo dung.
Campaign Scenarios Here's what I've got planned. Don't read too much into the titles as most games will probably turn into a general melee anyway.
Changes to the Rules Here're the Game Table I'll be using. Most of the changes should be obvious, but I've made a lot of personal assumptions feel free to ask questions.

Here are the To-Hit and Damage Tables I'll be using.

I'm using a different Warband Rating System, as well as a different method of compensation for low-ranked warbands fighting higher-ranked ones.

I've added Metamagic, which are a set of cards that players can use to change the game.

Warbands & Ranking This should give you an idea of what I'll be updating after evey game.
Real-Life Rules These are a few things that I'd like done in my game. If you think I'm being unfair, restrictive or annoying, say so and give me an alternative. I'll listen and not take offense. I may not change, but at least you'll know it's deliberate after that.
  • Dice: All rolls should be made after you have a target number and announce what you're rolling for. If the target number later changes the origional roll will stand. If there's any question about a roll, be prepared to make it again. All verbal math should be done by me.
  • Bribing the GM: For a cold can of Mountain Dew you can reroll one die. For half a pepperoni pizza you can predetermine the outcome of any single die roll. Both of these count only if I want it and don't have it at the time.

Schedule:
I haven't got any players yet, but when I do I'll get everyone to send me their schedules and see when's a good time. It won't be Tuesday or Friday nights, and my personal preference is for Thursday.
