Common Material Defense

This table gives an example of how hard it is to damage various materials. Most things (that aren't armor) don't withstand energy attacks as well; their effective DEF is 50%-75% of what's listed. See Defenses for examples of personal armor.

Glass: has 0 BODY but it won't break unless you exceed it's DEF.
Leaded Quartz glass: +10 DEF vs. energy
2 small appliance, broomstick, sheetrock, leather armor
3 light furniture, 3/4" plywood, residential wooden door, light kevlar
water: this is the effective DEF against high-speed kinetic attacks (16 BODY per hex).
Aluminum & Magnesium: if they take damage equal to twice their BODY, they ignite.
4 sheet metal, car door, hard & studded leather armor
5 soft rock (sandstone, shale), trees, scale & chain armor
6 rock, brick walls, steel bars, kevlar, personal Force Fields
7 concrete, fire doors, plate-mail armor, hardened kevlar, Spectra armor
8 reinforced concrete, armored plastics
9 hardened casting, engine block, advanced polymers
10 light armor walls, armored windows (composite Lexan), heavy personal Force Fields, hardened ceramic armor plates
12 WWII tank armor, submarine hull, heavy tank Force Fields, armored car
Hydroplast: an energy-dampening long-chain polymer with double normal BODY. Expensive but commonly used for large bulletproof windows.
14 medium armor walls, Tungsten steel, carrier Force Fields, battleship hull
16 Molybdenum steel, military base Force Fields, vault door
Ferrocrete: advanced concrete that forms an activated crystalline matrix (it faintly glows in the dark, which is why it's not widely used).
18 hardened Titanium-carbon steel, heavy armor walls, modern tank composite armor
20 composite ceramic reactive armor, M1A1 front armor
Questonite: unless you exceed its BODY, kinetic attacks suffer a 1/2 strength backlash effect.
25 alien starship hull, bio-crystalline nanoweave battle armor
30 alien starship Force Fields
50 Adamantium: takes x4 effect from molecular transforms, and this is also the only way to shape the stuff after the alloy has been cast.
